Am I good enough for the church?
Yes and No.
I suck and I'm not perfect. I would like to make other people believe I am, but I am not. I have done things I'm not proud of and I will do things I am not proud of. That is the unfortunate reality we live in. Many church people like to make us believe you need to be perfect, or atleast church perfect. Don't be gay, have sex outside of marriage, smoke, drink or act unholy (whatever that is suppose to mean). So, we put on a mask, a facade, pretend we are as good as the norm. All it does is distracting us from what's really important: Gods love.
We make mistakes, we are broken, hiding it will not help. Unfortunately, it is our human tendency to hide our brokenness and try to remove the splinter from our neighbours eye instead of removing the log from our own. (Pointing fingers, instead of looking at your own mistakes) God is, through Jesus, looking past your bad sides. Cross culture is trying to see past that as well, emphasis on trying, we are not perfect.
So am I good enough for church, Yes, everyone is loved by God.
But also No. Being in God allows you to grow in such great lengths towards the beauty that God intended for you. And I hope you will join me in that growth journey.
