Looking for a Sunday School ?

“Welcome all children!” isn’t it a familiar phrase in church? In the beginning of Cross Culture history it was not so. Many years ago, Cross Culture started as a student fellowship and had no children but slowly evolved into the church we are today. With many students graduating, staying in Uppsala and establishing families, our need for Sunday school grew exponentially.

First a couple of members started having children, then other families joined because they were looking for an English-speaking congregation or a Sunday school that their English-speaking children could enjoy. Because of that, we have the capacity to teach both in English and Swedish.

Currently we have 3 active groups in Sunday school: Little Fish 1-5 years, Big Fish 6-9 years and the newest addition Orcas 8-12 years (Sharks for youth is currently inactive). Orcas is led by fathers from the congregation and is focused on bible teaching and physical activities such as games and running around. Little Fish and Big Fish are led by leaders in the congregation and have singing and crafts in their schedule as well as bible-teaching.

Every leader brings in their own creativity, leadership skills and love for children into their lessons held every sunday. A main leader prepares the lesson plan for each Sunday and a team of at least 4 leaders teach and look after the children during the service. Our Sunday school is not only for children but also for parents so they can enjoy the preaching while knowing their children are in good hands.

To ensure everyone's safety and responsible leadership, we require each leader to have a clean criminal record. Additionally, leaders are encouraged to take the “I Trygga händer” course which is a comprehensive guide for working with children and youth in Church.

Since we want our leaders to be empowered and equipped we hold workshops at least once a term if not twice a term for leadership and competence development. To become a Sunday school leader has higher requirements than any other ministry in our congregation since we are entrusted with the most valuable parents have: their children.
